I actually really liked the new iteration of Apples key part of their iLife suite: iMovie 08. For some time I hadn't used it, and gotten complacent with my confidence in it's reliability. Dangerous waters it is to trust your software blindly. As Yoda would say.
Well, one day I had a deadline. I needed to edit some video, fast. But I opened up iMovie and nothing would happen. It would just sit there, and wait for something. As would I. But both of us. My computer, and I.... (as weird as that sounds) waited forever. Or would have, if I didn't loose my patience and interrupted the whole deal.
Up until now it had been bothering me, and finally today I took measures into my own hands and dealt with the problem. HOW I figured out what was wrong, is another story. But the fact of the matter is:
If you in your iPhoto library have a defected movie, a corrupt one so to speak, iMovie cannot launch. Whatsoever. So rid out those old movies, and check that every single one of them works, if you should ever encounter this problem. And I assure you that it will be a thing of the past.
(One way to do it, is do a keyword search for "movie" in iPhoto, and then open them all with QuickTime, to find the faulty one)
